About Me

I am an accountant with twenty four years of experience providing accounting services to local companies. I have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Michigan State University (1995) and a MBA from Grand Valley State University (2003).

To summarize my experience, I began working as a staff accountant where I worked on individual taxes and prepared monthly financial statements. After two and a half years, I transitioned into the manufacturing industry where I have accumulated most of my experience. I started in the manufacturing world by working for a company that made stainless steel castings for five and a half years. In this role, I learned to wear many hats from financial statement and budget preparation to implementing a custom built MRP software system. Sound credit procedures were put in place and an improvement in inventory procedures and accuracy was achieved. I also managed the general and worker's compensation insurance, administered the 401K, and handled all banking and legal relationships.

I then moved on to a start up office manufacturer of case goods, consisting of desks and cabinets. I developed and improved upon systems, controls, and procedures. I implemented various changes to utilize the MRP system to maximize efficiencies. I also handled human resource functions, banking, legal, and insurance relationships. After two years and due to a change in ownership, I moved onto working for a national corrugated box manufacture for five years. I was a key member of the local management team supporting the General Manager as a resource to plant management decisions. I consulted regularly with the corporate headquarters and the CFO regarding operational matters. This included budget preparation and monthly forecasting to the CEO and the CFO. We had an intense month end close process that included completing the financial statements by the last actual calendar day of the current month. I was a key participant in union negotiations and facilitated support for all information technology needs.

I then entered the area of distribution involving food ingredients for three years. I supported and consulted regularly with the CEO on operational and finance matters. I oversaw the financial statements and MRP system. Standard operating procedures were revised and created to increase efficiencies and improve controls. I managed all areas of finance, operations, credit, human resources, and information technology. I also handled all banking, legal, and insurance relationships.

To gain some flexibility for my family, I have entered the world of consulting to help small to mid size businesses improve the accounting and financial areas of their business. I understand the daily struggles of business in each area and use a hands on approach to plow through the kinks of inefficiencies to get things done, while you can focus on something else. I am confident I can add value to your organization.
